Vinegar Syndrome Pop-Up!
Jul 28 @ 16:00 – 20:00
Vinegar Syndrome Pop-Up!

If you look “vinegar syndrome” up online, you will find this definitition:
“Vinegar syndrome is a chemical degradation that occurs with cellulose acetate film and is characterized by an obvious vinegar smell. A process in which acetate film begins to degrade. This applies to media (cinematographic and photographic film, microfilm) made with acetate backing; most film of this type was made prior to 1980. The degradation process releases acetic acid, the same substance in vinegar that gives it its smell which is the identifying characteristic of the degradation process.”

But if you go to VinegarSyndrome.com, you will find that it is a film restoration and distribution company with a catalogue of hundreds of feature films, produced primarily between the 1960s and 1980s.

Why am I telling you this? Because Vinegar Syndrome is coming to DreamHaven Books! Wednesday, July 28th between 4 and 8 pm, a representative from Vinegar Syndrome will be here at the store with lots of DVDs and Blu-Rays, and according to his e-mail, “deals and giveaways”.

Our very own Ryan describes them as “one of the best of the boutique DVD/Blu-Ray labels” – and if you’ve ever talked films with him, you’ll know he’s a big fan.

My suggestion would be to check them out online and if you like what you see, come on out to DreamHaven on Wednesday. We’re all looking forward to it.

Larry Correia and Mike Kupari signing (Uncle Hugo’s benefit)
Jul 31 @ 15:00 – 17:00
Larry Correia and Mike Kupari signing (Uncle Hugo's benefit)

Signing – Larry Correia and Mike Kupari will be signing at DreamHaven Books, to benefit Uncle Hugo’s.

To quote Don Blyly, owner of Uncle Hugo’s:

“Larry Correia has a new novel coming in less than 2 months, Monster Hunter Bloodlines ($25.00), and Larry likes to launch new Monster Hunter novels with a signing at Uncle Hugo’s.  He really wanted to help Uncle Hugo’s this year with a signing, but there is the problem of no building. So I worked out a deal with Greg Ketter at DreamHaven and with Larry for the signing to take place at DreamHaven so that the signing can help both stores. You can now place a mail order for the new book at

http://www.unclehugo.com/prod/ah-correia-larry.php

If you can make it to the signing in person, it will start at 3 pm on Saturday, July 31, at 2301 E. 38th St., about 2 miles from the old Uncle Hugo’s location. Greg will be bringing in a lot of Larry’s backlist books. Proceeds from the sale of the new hardcover will go to Uncle Hugo’s and proceeds from everything else you buy during the signing will go to DreamHaven.”

Since he sent that out, we have received word that Mike Kupari, co-author with Larry Correia on several books and author of the forthcoming book The Family Business, will be joining him for the signing. Sales of The Family Business will also go to Uncle Hugo’s.
